Questions before your idea becomes metal.
A casting project does not have to begin with a complete production plan. Find clear answers about getting started, files, metals and next steps. If your design falls outside these examples, we will assess it personally.
Starting points and files
I have an idea but no drawing. Where should I start?
Send a short description and whatever you have: a sketch, photograph, reference or physical model. Include approximate dimensions and the intended use. We discuss what needs developing before a model or mould is made.
What should I send for an assessment of my casting project?
A photograph, sketch, PDF drawing or 3D file helps. Include dimensions, quantity, purpose and finish. You can upload STEP, STP, STL, OBJ, 3MF, GLB, DWG, DXF, PDF, JPG and PNG, among other formats: up to six files, 15 MB each and 40 MB in total.
Can I preview my own design as a metal object?
In the 3D project studio, suitable STEP, STP, STL, OBJ, 3MF and GLB files can be rotated and displayed with a metal appearance. This helps explore shape and finish. It does not assess strength, castability, weight or the final patina. Photographs and drawings are reviewed separately.
What happens after I submit my design?
We review your description and files and discuss shape, dimensions, metal, intended use and quantity. We then identify the preparation needed and agree the proposal and planning steps. An enquiry is not a production order.
Casting and technology
Can I commission a single sculpture or component without a large production run?
Yes, you can discuss a one-off object, prototype or small series. There is no fixed quantity suitable for every design. Model making, moulds, size and finish determine the approach. Let us know if you expect to order more pieces later.
Should I choose bronze, brass, aluminium or copper for my design?
Start with the purpose: appearance, weight, use and finish. Bronze and brass can suit art and decorative details; aluminium may be useful where weight matters. We assess metal and alloy for each design. A digital colour preview is not material advice.
Can you reproduce a missing or damaged component?
An original, fragment or matching component can be the starting point. Send overall and close-up photographs, dimensions and details of the application. We consider repair, 3D scanning, modelling or replacement casting. Permission to reproduce the design must be clear.
Is my 3D file printed directly in metal?
Our 3D techniques support modelling, fit checks and preparation of casting patterns. A 3D print is an intermediate stage rather than the finished metal product. We discuss the route from your file to a model, mould and cast component.
Can a broken bronze sculpture be repaired without recasting it completely?
That depends on the metal, damage and use. Send a full view and clear close-up photographs with approximate dimensions. We assess whether a repair, new part or another approach is appropriate. A final recommendation may require examination in the workshop.
How do you choose a suitable plinth for my sculpture?
We consider proportions, height, weight, setting and fixing. Send a photograph, approximate dimensions and information about the location. For a load-bearing plinth, technical details are discussed before deciding on construction.
Timing and proposals
What determines the price of a custom metal casting?
The price includes preparation and model making, mould construction, the chosen metal, quantity and finishing. Size and complexity also matter. Send the design, dimensions and quantity so we can assess the work needed for a tailored proposal.
I have a target completion date. When should I contact you?
Contact us as soon as the shape, purpose or initial idea is clear and mention your target date. We discuss preparation, any model checks, casting and finishing. A delivery date is agreed only after assessing the design and our schedule.
Can I request a casting project from Belgium or another country?
Yes. You can send your description and files online. Tell us the country, delivery location and any transport or installation requirements. These arrangements are considered when discussing the project.
Is your question not listed?
Send a sketch, photograph, technical drawing or 3D model. We will respond to your particular design and explain what information is still needed.
