Material Lab / De Gietkamer

Material is more than a colour on a screen.

An object's character comes from its alloy, casting process and finish. Explore the differences and view your design in our 3D studio. We settle the final choice together, using a real sample and technical review.

Four starting points

The right choice depends on use, shape, quantity, exposure and the intended appearance. These are common starting points.

01

Bronze

Depth and nuance

A strong choice for sculpture and relief. The surface can stay warm, take on a dark patina or catch light on polished details.

Often used for
Art, sculpture, hardware and restoration
Possible finishes
Natural, polished, light or dark patina
02

Brass

Warm and precise

A golden appearance for visible details and components that combine function with a considered finish.

Often used for
Interiors, handles, ornaments and product details
Possible finishes
Natural, polished or aged
03

Aluminium

Light and versatile

Useful where weight, form and repeatability matter. We discuss surface and protection in relation to the application.

Often used for
Prototypes, components and larger forms
Possible finishes
Natural, ground, matte or polished
04

Copper and other alloys

A surface that evolves

Copper changes with time and environment. We discuss the precise alloy and production approach for each unusual project.

Often used for
Special objects and architectural details
Possible finishes
Natural, polished or patinated by consultation

Real work, not a digital sample

These photographs show work in our workshop. A render suggests colour and sheen; a physical sample is needed to approve a particular patina, texture or response to light.
